For those of you who don't know, my sister and I are trying to watch every movie Karl Urban has been in.
Out of the Blue
This is a New Zealand docu-drama about "the biggest mass killing in the country's history." It's slow-paced, with a very indie/documentary feel. Karl Urban plays one of the local police officers who respond to the shootings and spend a night trying to catch the shooter. The violence is brutally realistic without being bloody. Probably the most potentially upsetting aspect of this film is the depiction of the four children who were killed in the rampage. If you have triggers around harm to children I would not watch.
Karl's part is a relatively small one, and unfortunately thanks to the tone it's hard to enjoy your police uniform fetish. I wouldn't recommend seeing this just for him, but if you like documentaries and have a thick emotional skin, it's a great movie.
Film rating: 4/5
Karl Quotient: 1/5
Red
I didn't have high expectations for this movie, and it met those expectations. It's a silly, over-the-top action flick starring a group of well-respected actors who like slumming it. Karl plays the main antagonist, a CIA agent tasked with taking out Bruce Willis' retired agent who knows too much about a politically sensitive incident in Latin America in the 80s. He gets one fun fight scene with Bruce:

So lots of suit-and-tie!Karl as well as bloody!Karl. Also, Helen Mirren in an evening gown and combat boots wielding an MP5. If this sounds like your kind of movie, it is.
