Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, etc

I convinced my parents to come see Sherlock Holmes with me while I'm visiting. My mother and I saw the first one on Christmas when it came out, but we realized after watching this one that my father had never seen the first one and wasn't aware there HAD been a first one. He seemed to enjoy it anyway.
I got excited during some of the previews and then had to try to explain to my mother ("This Means War" will be bad, but I'll enjoy it, it's going to be a fangirl vs. fangirl fight, that guy is the new Kirk, and Tom Hardy kind of has his own fandom). And it was my first time seeing the Dark Knight Rises preview! I did not try to explain to my mother that there is already slash about characters no one knows anything about yet.
Well, it was fun and about as ridiculous as the first one. I liked that they did include a few nods to the original stories, though I've been spoiled by how full of references Sherlock is. Reichenbach Falls re-done, and the "come if convenient, if inconvenient come anyway" note were the main ones I noticed. The plot hinging on face transplants (which aren't even possible to do that well now, WTF) was pretty silly, but making Moriarty an arms dealer wasn't a bad idea. Fandom ruined one thing for me: ever since it was suggested that Hugh Laurie should play Moriarty, no one else has been able to live up to my imaginary Hughiarty. Oh well.
Oh, and Stephen Fry as Mycroft wandering around his house naked while Mary Watson tries to talk to him was pretty brilliant, if anachronistic. I liked how they handled Mary, because she's not really supposed to be a part of their adventures, but they implied in the first movie that she puts up with Holmes because she's kind of a fangirl and she can't go off and have the adventures so she lets Watson do it. At least she gets a part to play, even if she's not on screen a lot.
